THE KOREAN ARCHERY SQUAD -- All Around Winners and Best of Show in 1903
When posting the Manchurian Archer views today, it occurred to me that I forgot to add the Korean Archers to the Korea Set posted last year.
Well, here they are !
Original title from 105 years ago : MUCH ENVIED WINNERS OF THE ARROW-SHOOTING CONTEST --- THE NATIONAL GAME OF THE HIGHEST ARISTOCRACY --- KOREA.
The full 3-D version of the above photo is seen here :www.flickr.com/photos/24443965@N08/3515169294/

Photographed by HERBERT PONTING in 1903 while visiting Korea on a stereoview expedition for UNDERWOOD & UNDERWOOD. Unknowns to him at the time, the RUSSO-JAPAN WAR was about to break out on Chinese Soil.

When the war did flare up, and Korea became a staging point for the Japanese Army's entry into China, only two Western publishers had a wide range of 3-D Korea images ready for sale --- C.H. GRAVES, and UNDERWOOD & UNDERWOOD. And all of these Korea stereoviews (and the 2-D slides and prints made from them for mass media use) were taken by PONTING.

All of the ARCHERY views on my photostream can be seen here on one page :www.flickr.com/search/?w=24443965@N08&q=aRCHERY&m...

WHY EXTRATERRESTIALS AVOIDED OLD KOREA (1)
They took one look at those pointy policeman umbrella hats, and quickly returned to Mars.
Found mixed in with a group of 1895-1935 hand-colored and black & white glass lantern slides of old pre-WW2 China.
Location correctly ID'd by commenter ohxmas below. Thanks !
